Joan M. Heichert, born on November 27, 1930 in Queens, NY, passed away on January 15, 2017 at her home in Ft. Pierce, FL. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1995. Joan raised her family in North Babylon, NY, retired to Elizabeth City, NC and continued to enjoy her retirement in Ft. Pierce at Spanish Lakes Country Club. Joan was ever ready and willing to volunteer in the service of others. She enjoyed reading, swimming, playing Bocci Ball, attending Bible Study, watching her favorite TV shows, going to the movies with “the girls,” and organizing and planning social gatherings. Most of all, Joan loved spending time with her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Jack Heichert (Kathy Hughes) of Elizabeth City, NC and Janet Murphy (Patrick) of Parkland, FL; four grandchildren, Andrea, Declan, Jesse and Sarah; great-granddaughters, Gabrielle Heichert and Isidora Posada. Joan will be dearly missed by her sister, Betty (Phil) Kornely; brother, Bob (Joan, predeceased) Higgins both of Ft. Pierce, FL as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends, especially her dear friend, June Foradas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am, Monday, January 23, 2017 at Saint Mark the Evangelist Parish in Ft. Pierce, followed by a celebration of her life at the clubhouse at Spanish Lakes Country Club. Inurnment will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church Memorial Garden in Elizabeth City at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a gift in Joan’s memory may be made to The American Heart Association, PO Box 840692 Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or online at www.heart.org.
