Obituary for George Burton

George  Burton
George Burton, 90, of Vero Beach, died Thursday, February 2. He was raised in Yorkshire, England and graduated from Loughborough University in England, and San Francisco City College. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1954 and began a career in hotel and club management. He met his wife, Catherine Schmidt, in Ventnor, NJ and married in 1956. He was president of the Club Manager’s Association of America in 1978, and managed clubs in Kansas City, KS, Hopkins, MN, and Rockville, MD. He loved travelling, both here and abroad by car and cruise ship, and all across the U.S. in a motorhome. He was a devoted Rotary member for 45 years, and loved visiting other clubs while travelling to maintain perfect attendance. He loved meeting and talking to people everywhere he went.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine, brother Ernest (Margrit) of Tahoe City, CA, and daughter, Susan (Tom) of Minneapolis, MN. He is also survived by granddaughter Elizabeth (Raymund) of Albany, OR and great-grandson William; and granddaughter Erica (Daryl) of Baltimore, MD, and great-grandchildren Daryl, Jr and Clara.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 9th at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd, Vero Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to VNA Hospice House or Florida Baptist Retirement Center.
