Obituary for Charlotte Wagner Dietz

Charlotte Wagner Dietz of Vero Beach, Florida and Ellsworth, Maine, formerly of Franklin Lakes, NJ, passed away quietly on March 25th 2017 at the age of 91. Charlotte was born in York, Pennsylvania on December 20, 1925 where she was raised until moving to New Jersey where she lived for most of her adult life. She attended Duke University and graduated with a degree in Chemistry in 1945 and worked for Merck Sharp & Dohme for several years before marrying Philip Dietz also of York, PA. During her later years in NJ, Charlotte often worked as a substitute teacher while raising five sons. Charlotte was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff, NJ for many years before she and Philip retired to Florida, spending their summers in Ellsworth, Maine. More recently they have attended the Community Church of Vero Beach, Florida.

In earlier years, she was active in the Junior League of Bergen County, enjoyed playing tennis, was a member of Ridgewood Country Club Nine-holers ladies golf league, the Blue Hill Country Club in Blue Hill, Maine and the Moorings and Vero Beach Country Clubs in Vero Beach. Charlotte is survived by her faithful, loving husband of 69 years, Philip F. Dietz, as well as her five sons, P. Timothy Dietz (wife Diane), David F. Dietz (wife Kathy), Stephen E. Dietz (wife Martha), Robert W. Dietz (wife Merryl), and Dr. William A. Dietz. Charlotte has 16 grandchildren who she loved very much; Patrick (pre-deceased), Danielle (husband Derek), Denise, Jamie, Philip (wife Victoria), Stephen (wife Beth), Carl (husband John), Martha (husband, Gardner), Christopher (wife Kate), Evan, Graham, Jessica (husband Michael), William, David, Jacob and Christian. Charlotte is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way. She is also survived by her sister Nanette Hoff and family. A wonderful legacy and tribute of her love and compassion of family.

A memorial service celebrating her life and internment will be held at Grace United Methodist Church on a future date. Donations may be made in Charlotte’s memory to Grace United Methodist Church, 555 Russell Ave, Wyckoff, New Jersey.
