Obituary for Harry Jones

Harry Jones
Harry Jones, 89, of Wabasso, Florida passed away on May 18, 2017.

He was born in Allingdale, West Virginia to Elzie and Ola Jones on March 7, 1928. He was the last remaining of 12 children. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline Jones. At the time of her passing in 2013, they had been married 62 years.

As a young man, Harry joined the U.S. Navy and finished his military career in the US Coast Guard. He was proud of his service, most notably as the last light keeper at Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse, Daytona Beach, in 1952.

After his military career, he worked for Pauline’s family in the citrus industry and later as a mechanic.
He loved to hunt, fish, and watch sports…go West Virginia!

Harry is survived by his daughters, Linda DeBlasio of Vero Beach and Nancy McColl of Wabasso, and son-in-law, Bryan McColl also of Wabasso. He had five grandchildren, Carrie Correa, Jerome, Shawn, and Katie DeBlasio, all of Vero Beach, and Richard Powell of Annapolis, MD; and five great-grandchildren, Hayle Bogin, Mason Correa, Kayla DeBlasio, Aiden and Austin VanAntwerp, all of Vero Beach.

In June of last year, Harry had aortic valve replacement surgery and was doing well. Unfortunately, in December, he fell and broke his hip. He had been in and out of hospitals and physical rehabilitation facilities ever since. He was a strong man, a fighter to the end.

He was a quiet, humble man, but had a funny streak! His family will miss him more than words can say. He was truly loved.
