Albert Joseph "AJ" Heister Jr.
Albert Joseph Heister, Jr. liked to be call AJ. In fact, that was the preferred way his dad wanted to be called but most people called him Bert. So when we found out we were going to be blessed with a son, he asked me if we could call him AJ.
For reasons only God knows, AJ died on June 15, 2017 at the age of 30; 11 days before the 8th anniversary of his father's passing. The following Sunday, June 18th was Father's Day and Corpus Christi. Following the 10:30 mass, there was Benediction of the Eucharist. It couldn't have been a more perfect service. I knew then with every fiber of my being that father and son were together and that AJ had never been alone. He had always been surrounded by those who loved him.
I believe in signs- AJ was born in the year of the rabbit. Immediately after his passing, I saw a number of rabbits in my yard as well as my neighbor's yard. I also learned that June 15th was World Children's Day, another sign. AJ was a child of God given to us for a short time and I will miss him forever.
