Donald P. Braender of Vero Beach, Florida, died December 5, 2016. He was born in White Plains, New York on March 8, 1924, and lived in New Jersey before moving to Florida in 1979 from Summit, NJ, to Tequesta, FL. In 1989, he moved to Vero Beach, FL. He was in the Army Medical Corp. for 3 years, serving overseas on the Pacific Island of Tinian in the Mariannas.

In Summit, Donald was a member and past President of Rotary Club, Vice-President of YMCA, member of the Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Downtown Association.

Before retirement, he was a funeral director and embalmer, and a partner and owner of Burroughs & Kohr Funeral Homes in Summit and Madison, NJ. He and his partners sold the business in 1979, when he moved to Tequesta, FL.

He attended Cornell University and graduated from Echols College of Mortuary Sciences in Philadelphia, PA, and National Foundation of Funeral Services, Evanston, IL. He served his apprenticeship at Smith & Smith Funeral Homes in Newark, and Springfield, NJ.

In 1953, he was hired by the Arabian American Oil Company, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, as their funeral director. He handled all the Christian burials in all of Arabia. Don returned home to Smith & Smith, and became General Manager before going on as a partner of Burroughs & Kohr.

While in Arabia, he met his wife, Marjorie P. Heaslip, and was married in 1955 in Sea Girt, NJ. They have two children, Carol Arabia B. Moran and Richard Edward Braender. They have six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held privately and his ashes will be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean, by his remaining family.
